Using social ads to promote your app has proven to be an effective online advertising strategy, but will this trend continue? Read this article to get a feel for where social ads are headed.
Social ads data
Social media is a hotspot for online advertising. More than 60% of the costs associated with social media advertising goes towards Facebook.
However, that doesn’t mean digital marketers have forgotten about other platforms. Mobile marketing expenses on Instagram have taken 20% of the overall social media advertising costs.
And the size of Instagram’s audience is growing, with the site’s top 50 brands now reaching the same number of users as Facebook’s top 50 brands.
Plus, Instagram’s audience tends to be more engaged. This key behavior remains consistent while Facebook’s interactions have decreased by 3.3%.
Instagram Carousel and Facebook Live are the types of posts that most encourage engagement. Both are effective and easy to implement in your online advertising strategy.
If the importance of being on Instagram hasn’t already been made clear, this next bit of information should convince you. A 33% increase in the number of Instagram influencers publishing #Ad posts reveals that these prominent people are promoting more products to their followers. This was reported in Q2 2019.
According to Socialbakers CEC, Yuval Ben-Itzhak, “The Q2 2019 data suggests that those marketers who aren’t putting most of their efforts into paid social media optimisation, benchmarking, and maximising cross-channel visibility, are falling behind.”
Although social ads are a widely used mobile marketing tactic, paid search ads are still more popular. The amount of money being spent on paid ads will amount to $107 billion this year, increasing by 8% from the previous year.
Predictions for social ads
We’ve seen from past data how effective social ads can be. But is that trend expected to continue?
The media agency Zenith anticipates a 20% increase in spending on social ads, arriving at a total cost of $84 billion. Out of all available marketing channels, social media advertising will be the third most used tactic, with advertising costs taking about 13% of the total cost for all marketing channels.
Zenith also claims that social media advertising costs will exceed the amount spent on traditional print advertising by the end of 2019. This is the first time that has ever happened.
This growth in social ad spending is coming from small businesses that want to utilize social media for its ability to target specific markets and create localized ads.
Zenith reveals that, “Small businesses in the U.S. are spending heavily on social media and paid search, and are fueling much of the global growth of these channels”.
Although continued growth for social ads is expected, Zenith predicts it will start to slow down. Its rate of growth could decrease to 17% in the next year and then further decrease to 13% in 2021.
Based on the data above, it’s clear that social ads are not going away any time soon. Digital marketers are using them because they are truly effective and have the potential to reach a large audience.
